Q. If I use CDI to develop a product for
my company, who will own the design rights?
A. You will acquire a royalty free, perpetual and exclusive
right to use the Document Package to manufacture the
items it describes, or have the items manufactured by
others. You will also have the unlimited, non-transferable
and non-assignable right to use any patent, invention
or copyright that are part of the design or form a part
of the Document Package.
Q. Does CDI use consultants to perform
work for its customers?
A. Generally, we do not use consultants for the major
tasks of a development project. Occasionally, as a part
of an overall project, CDI may use a consultant to perform
some smaller specialized task (e.g., a mechanical design).
Q. How do my people interact with CDI while
the product is being developed?
A. In early phases of a project, extensive consultations
will occur between your engineering and marketing employees
and CDI engineers. Once the design is underway, joint
design reviews are scheduled during which engineers
from both companies are in attendence. These meetings
typically require 4-8 hours each and, depending upon
the complexity of the development program, may occur
every 4-8 weeks.
Q. Is CDI an "8A" firm?
A. No.
Q. Is CDI classified as a Small Business?
A. Yes.
Q. Is CDI and Equal Opportunity Employer?
A. Yes.
Q. What is the typical schedule and cost
of a CDI project?
A. While subject to wide variation depending on requirements,
a typical CDI project calls for the development of fewer
than ten prototypes of a product containing custom hardware
and firmware. The typical duration of such a program
is twenty weeks at a cost of about $180,000. Again,
these figures can vary signficantly depending the project
requirements.
Q. Sounds exciting! Are their job openings
for engineers at CDI?
A. CDI is constantly seeking exceptional engineers
who enjoy client interaction, diverse experiences new
